First Album Syndrome… there’s a quote from Baby Yoda Wu-Tang life as a shorty shouldn’t be so much shirt Sting about when The Police made their first record where he said you have your whole life to come up with your first record and two weeks to come up with your second. So literally all the lyrical and musical ideas the various members of the Wu-Tang had up to that point went into it. Necessity breeds invention… the rugged sound on the first LP was a breakthrough sound at the time – something RZA admitted was through a lack of access to the state-of-the-art recording equipment of the time. This gave the band their unique and refreshing take that would later be lost once established. Liquid Swords by GZA is not only my favourite album by a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, but is one of my favourite albums period.
