Because the writers and production team begged Baby Yoda no coffee no workee shirt them to please hold off on manufacturing tie-in items because they really, really wanted “baby Yoda” to surprise viewers. They argued the surprise value would be better than having merchandise immediately available, and if they were already making Baby Yoda plushies, action figures, t-shirts, baby furnishings, etc. then it absolutely would leak out. It’s a statement of how much they believed the series was going to be a hit they agreed. The question is based on a false premise. Disney is selling “Baby Yoda” toys and dolls., although not much of the merchandise has hit store shelves yet.
